The first decision is to go truck-mounted or portable? High or low moisture? The main reason we went with truck-mounted carpet, tile, grout and upholstery cleaning equipment is power, you cannot beat the power of a truck-mount and it is by the majority of people’s standards, superior.

Sometimes the encapsulation process is used at regular intervals with a CRB (counter-rotating brush) machine but it is still good to get a deep extraction once a year. A portable machine is acceptable as well really but the power is just not there. With truck-mounted equipment, you can a lot more pressure during the cleaning process because there is a lot more vacuum power. Also, from a set-up tear-down standpoint, there really is no time benefit from a portable it is typically just a decision based on cost.
That being said- a portable has its place, especially in commercial environments like high rises and what not where it is hard to get hoses from a truck-mounted van. We had a call to a house recently where a company had just left and they had used a CRB machine only- in this scenario it just wasn’t enough to pull all the dirt and grime from the carpet and make the customer happy. When we got the call it was a Friday afternoon and although not always possible we were able to go serve them and re-clean the carpet making them a happy customer.
